About:

Eileen Goddard specializes in the 16th century Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition. Her dissertation research analyzes the siddha-rūpa, the perfected and eternally gendered devotional body that bhaktas are theorized to initially experience in meditation and ultimately experience in liberation. Eileen’s research analyzes early Gauḍīya theorization of the siddha-rūpa in relationship to key contending South Asian philosophical, bhakti, and tantric traditions. These include: (1) Pātañjala Yoga, (2) Advaita Vedānta, (3) the Śrīvaiṣṇava Sampradāya, and (4) the Pāñcarātra ritual tradition.
