Chelsea, raised in Tucson, Arizona, graduated from the University of Arizona in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Religious Studies with a focus on Indigenous Ways of Knowing. Her scholar-activism is located at the intersections of Religious Studies, critical Indigenous studies, and law. Chelsea works alongside Dr. Gregory Johnson (Religious Studies, UCSB) and Dr. Candace Waid (English, UCSB).

Positionality Statement

I am a non-Native woman pursuing graduate studies in Indigenous worldviews, in an institution and in a country of stolen land, stolen lives, and broken treaties. No longer a child, I cannot claim to have been taught wrong; unlearning is my responsibility now. Admitted and enrolled, I cannot claim to have not been given the opportunity; learning is my responsibility now. Thomas King tells us our ignorance is no longer acceptable. “But don’t say in the years to come that you would have lived your life differently if only you had heard this story” (2003). I’ve heard it now.
